This year marks my first official Mother’s Day—and what a surreal, beautiful thing to be able to say. This time last year, we were (very impatiently) counting down the days until Shep’s arrival. I remember feeling like I was crawling out of my skin with anticipation, so ready to become a mom. And now, almost a full year later, here I am writing this while my almost-11-month-old naps in the other room.
The past year has been full of ups and downs, but through it all, the one unwavering feeling has always been gratitude. I am endlessly thankful that I get to be Shep’s mom.
I’m saving the deeper reflections for a post I plan to share around his first birthday, so for now, let me just say this: motherhood is a gift—but we also deserve a gift (or two!) because it is most definitely not for the weak.
As I started brainstorming ideas for this post, I had a thought: instead of guessing what moms might want for Mother’s Day, why not go straight to the source? So I asked. I reached out to my own mom, sister, and to the incredible mom friends in my life, and gathered their honest answers.
Below is a curated list of gifts—from the practical to the splurge-worthy—that moms actually want. Whether you're shopping for yourself, a friend, or a mother figure you love, I hope this roundup inspires you to spoil them in a way that feels as meaningful and special as the role itself.
Let’s dive in.
